- Individual arrival in Barletta, scene of a historical tournament (known as the 'Challenge') between Italian and French knights. This elegant coastal city enthrals with its castle, Palatine basilica and Impressionist masterpieces. Overnight stay in Barletta.
- BARLETTA - VENOSA 70 km / +850m. Bike delivery and briefing. The first stage will lead you from Barletta, on the Adriatic coast, to the gentle hills of Venosa – hometown of the Roman poet Horace – in Basilicata, passing through Canosa di Puglia. Overnight stay in Venosa.
- VENOSA - GRAVINA IN PUGLIA 67 km / +870m. From Venosa you will start your journey on the Appian Way. After visiting the town of Palazzo San Gervasio, you will ride towards the Serra del Corvo dam, at the border between Basilicata and Puglia, before you reach Gravina in Puglia, a wonderful village perched on the edge of a ravine that hides an underground world made of tunnels, cellars and stone churches. Overnight stay in Gravina in Puglia.
- GRAVINA IN PUGLIA - CASTELLANETA 55 km / +350m. Today you will bike through the expanse of fields characterising this area, surrounded by the low hills of the Murgia. Your destination is Castellaneta, a small town overlooking a ravine. Overnight stay in Castellaneta.
- CASTELLANETA - TARANTO 40 km / +120m. A scenic cycle path will take you to Palagianello. Then, your route continues towards Palagiano and, through olive and citrus trees, you will get to Taranto, the “city of two seas”. A rich concentration of history, Taranto was one of the most important colonies of Magna Graecia and a crucial stop on the Appian Way. Overnight stay in Taranto.
- TARANTO - ORIA 47 km / +270m. Leaving the Ionian coast, you will cycle eastward and pass through San Giorgio Ionico and Carosino on the way to your destination, Oria, a really ancient town that was already an important centre before the Romans. Approaching Oria, you will spot its Swabian Castle, built at the behest of the great emperor Frederick II, which dominates the medieval old town. Overnight stay in Oria.
- ORIA - BRINDISI 35 km / +50m. The last section of the itinerary is a short and easy ride that, cycling across the beautiful town of Mesagne, will take you to Brindisi, on the Adriatic coast, where two Roman columns mark the end of the Appian Way. Thanks to its natural port and strategic position in the Mediterranean sea, Brindisi has always been a crossroads of people and cultures. Overnight stay in Brindisi.
