HOW TO GET TO PUGLIA
Puglia is closer than you think
You can easily reach Puglia from any major European capital, with direct flights to Bari and Brindisi as well as several boat and ferry options or via railway and highway.
By Plane
There are two main airports in Puglia: the Karol Wojtyla Airport in Bari and the Airport of Salento in Brindisi, and flights arrive directly from all over Europe.
- The Bari Airport is the main airport in Apulia. It is located 9 kilometers away from downtown Bari. You can reach the city of Bari by train (travel time 20 minutes) or by AMTAB bus with the line number 16 or a shuttle by Autoservizi Tempesta. The company Puglia Air Bus connects the airport to many towns in Apulia, also reaching the city of Matera. For more informtion click here: GETTING TO & FROM THE AIRPORT - BARI
- The Brindisi Aiport is about 6 kilometers away from the city center and about 35 kilometers from Lecce, the best option to reach the Salento area. STP Brindisi bus line connects the airport to downtown Brindisi and the Port of Brindisi, the tourist ferries dock. Puglia Air Bus connects the airport to different towns in Apulia, also reaching the city of Matera. For more information click here: GETTING TO & FROM THE AIRPORT - BRINDISI
Keep in mind that Puglia is also very well connected to many Italian airports, so if you don’t find an interesting direct flight from your departure location, you can easily fly to Brindisi or Bari via Milan, Rome and other Italian cities.
By Train
The national Railway service covers pretty well all the region therefore trains might be an easy way to get and move around Puglia. The Adriatic railway connects Bologna to Lecce and Taranto and also stops to Foggia and Bari. The railway between Rome and Taranto also stops in Bari and Naples.
Additional information and timetables can be found on the official national Railway website www.trenitalia.com. Trenitalia normally provides great savings for those under 26 or over 60 years. Sometimes good deals are also available on their website.

The port in Brindisi has daily connections to Valona in Albania, Greece to Corfù, Igoumenitsa, Cefalonia, Paxos, Zante, Patrasso and finally to Çeşme in Turkey.
The port in Taranto is used in military and industrial roles. It is one of the most important ports in Italy and the whole Mediterranean and is also connected to the Middle East and China (mainly for commercial use).

HOW TO GET TO LECCE
There is a direct coach service between the airports and Lecce, meaning the journey is quick and easy. The only drawback is that the bus stop in Lecce is a short way outside the city centre. The bus stop is grandly titled Lecce City Terminal, and boasts a small office with an air-conditioned waiting room. You could walk between the Lecce City Terminal and the heart of town, but it's a fair distance and - depending on the location of your accommodation - it is likely to be a better option to take a bus. The number 21 'Navetta Foro Boario' is a shuttle service which connects the big car park over the road from the Lecce City Terminal building with the castle, close to Piazza Sant'Oronzo. Buses stop alongside the car park, and also a short distance along the road into the centre (to the right), which is indicated by signs to the centro. The office at the terminal closes at 5:30pm at the time of writing; when open the staff should be able to provide you with any additional advice about reaching your accommodation.
If you arrive in Bari airport it is also possible first to reach Bari central train station and there take a train to Lecce. Lecce, in fact, is on Italy's mainline railway network run by the Ferrovie dello Stato (Trenitalia) and so it is connected to most major towns in Italy. It is also served by a local rail service, called Ferrovie Sud Est (FSE) which runs slow but scenic little trains through inland Puglia. From Lecce you can take these trains to Gallipoli, Otranto and the towns of the Valle d'Itria: Martina Franca, Alberobello, Locorotondo and Cisternino. At Lecce station you'll find the separate FSE ticket office on first platform up to the right as you face the tracks. STP city buses depart from outside the station – the station bar sells both bus and regional rail tickets.
