The Coast of Trulli - Via Francigena, Trulli & Sea
Self-guided hiking tour - 8 Days / 7 Nights
The tour follows some stretches of the Via Francigena and takes the traveler to discover the Costa dei Trulli. We start from Fasano to reach the Arckeological Park of Egnazia, where some sections of the Via Appia - Traiana will still be visible. The tour begins on the Adriatic coast and its two pearls: the city of Monopoli and the village perched on the sea of Polignano a Mare. The hiking tour continues inland, crossing the medieval village of Conversano, a fascinating city that watches over the surrounding area from the top of its hill. The last stages will take you to the Itria valley, first to Castellana Grotte which houses one of the most beautiful karst treasures in Italy: the Castellana Caves, after Castellana you continue to Putignano, a city famous for its historic Carnival, at this point you will have almost arrived at your destination: Alberobello, a UNESCO city since 1996 with its trulli.

Distance: 14 km; elevation: 100 m; terrain: gravel; time: 3 h
Even today's track follows the Via Francigena. Totally coastal unlike the Via Appia, in ancient times it saved a day's walk. After leaving Monopoli, you reach Polignano a Mare crossing the beautiful coves with golden sand and the Sella Bridge. A totally natural bridge overlooking the blue Adriatic sea. You will finally arrive in Polignano a Mare: the pearl of the Adriatic. A stop at its balconies overlooking the sea and a photo with the statue of Domenico Modugno ( the famous songwriter of the song "Volare oh oh") are a must! Overnight stay in Polignano a Mare.

Day 4. POLIGNANO A MARE - CONVERSANO
Distance: 12 km; elevation: 220 m; terrain: gravel/paved; time: 4 h
Today's walk will first take you to the small fishermans' village of San Vito with its beautiful little harbour. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the sea caves of Polignano with our boat tour! The small port was once controlled by the Benedictine monks who lived in the Abbey which houses both the relics of Saint Vito and an underground oil mill from the Roman era. You will understand that you are walking along a Roman road also thanks to the column located on the rocks. On the other hand, it retains the coastal tower from the sixteenth century, typical of the Apulian coastline, built as a defense against the Saracens invasions. The road will lead you to the medieval village, today the city of art of Conversano. Overnight stay in Conversano.
